Electrical Cables, Wires and Lugs Buying Guide for Nigeria
Cable selection affects safety, voltage drop and equipment performance. Conductor size, material, core count, insulation and installation method should follow the approved electrical design.
Start with the cable schedule
Use the design current, route length and installation method to select the cable. The same load may require a different conductor size when the route, grouping or ambient conditions change.
- Conductor size in mm²
- Single-core or multicore construction
- Armoured, flexible or building wire
- Route length and installation method
Check voltage drop and protection
Cable size must coordinate with the circuit breaker or fuse while keeping voltage drop within the project requirement. Earthing conductors should also be specified, not treated as an afterthought.
- Design current and protective device
- Permitted voltage drop
- Grouping and temperature factors
- Earthing and bonding requirement
Match every lug to the termination
Cable lugs should match the conductor size, conductor material, terminal stud and crimping system. An incorrect lug or poor crimp can overheat even when the cable itself is correctly sized.
- Cable size and conductor material
- Stud-hole diameter
- Correct crimping die
- Insulation and heat-shrink finish
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions buyers ask
Are cable prices per metre or per coil?
The applicable unit depends on the product. Confirm the quantity unit with Gioco Nigeria before payment.
Can Gioco Nigeria help check a cable schedule?
Yes. Send the BOQ or cable schedule with sizes, cores, lengths and application for quotation and specification discussion.
How do I choose the correct cable lug?
Match the lug to the conductor size and material, the equipment terminal and the approved crimping method.
